Latest Updates from Our Project:

A week in, and a status update!
about 7 years ago – Wed, Feb 22, 2017 at 12:05:31 PM

SO, how has our week gone?

Last week (2/14 - 2/21):

  • Celebrate! Around our sniffles and coughs, we had a great brainstorming celebration!
  • Start working with the t-shirt printers:  We've placed the order, and the t-shirt printer is working with the art, tweaking it to work for their machines.  I'll let you know when we get our proof!
  • Sit down with our attorney: We didn't make it over this week because of the crud we were fighting; we're going to make out appointment for next week.
  • Create Kickstarter and BackerKit Surveys: I'll be sending backerKit surveys in the next 48 hours to collect size and final count information.
  • Brainstorm our next designs: We had an excellent session last Thursday, and we have three designs in process.  I'll send out an additional update in the next couple of days with our concepts!  I hope you'll all give us feedback and let us know what you think!
  • Wait: (Still waiting)

This week (2/22 - 2/28):

  • Send Surveys: Launching surveys this week!
  • Preview our next design(s): Planning to send the update Friday afternoon.
  • Spec out our website: We'll sit down with our web designer and outline the plan for what we want our site to do eventually, and what of that we can get in our next iteration.
  • Wait: (hopefully Kickstarter has finished processing it's payments, but it can take two weeks....)

Week 3 (3/1 - 3/7):

  • Place order with T-shirt company: With enough of the surveys back and funding in hand, we'll place the order to print!

After that:

  • Receive, sort, and ship T-Shirts
  • Release updated website
  • Complete Legal Paperwork
  • Build next Kickstarter campaign for next design(s)
  • Change the world!

I will send a timeline update once a week, to let you know where we are.  I'll probably also send other updates, as I get excited about sharing how we're doing...

Also: If you know someone who didn't get a chance to pledge, but still wants in, send them this link, and they should be able to start pre-ordering shirts here!

Thank you all for being part of our excitement and our project- and reading this far into the update!

So excited to be working on this with, and for, all of you.

What's Next for Wear My Values?
about 7 years ago – Tue, Feb 14, 2017 at 04:29:23 PM

Now that we're funded, what's next?

This week (2/14 - 2/21):

  • Celebrate!
  • Start working with the t-shirt printers:  They have approximately a 4 week lead time to get shirts printed, so we're starting the clock this week.  We need to work with them to convert our art to what they need to burn the screens and screen print on shirts.
  • Sit down with our attorney: We're going to finalize the legal details of creating our LLC.
  • Create Kickstarter and BackerKit Surveys: We need to collect information from all of our backers about things like t-shirt size, addresses, and what name they want on the funder's page of our website.
  • Brainstorm our next designs: Sit down with the team and brainstorm both additional designs, and work on finalizing 2-3 more of our favorite designs.
  • Wait: Kickstarter & Amazon take up to two weeks to process the payments and provide funding to successful project creators.

Next week (2/22 - 2/28):

  • Send Surveys: We need to get a count of our backers t-shirts and sizes so that we make sure our initial order covers what everyone wants.
  • Preview our next design(s): We'll send out an update previewing our next shirt, hopefully more than one.  They'll likely not be finished, but at least you can see the sketch(es) of where we're going!

That's a wrap!

119% funded!  We're making t-shirts!

https://wearmyvalues.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

I've set up a pre-order site for those who missed the end of the campaign; we've decided to go with BackerKit to do surveys and rewards; they have a useful store set up.  I'll send surveys and such next week, and we'll get the rest of this ball rolling.

We're all sick here today, but through the snuffles and the coughing, we're cheering and excited to get to work.

Can't wait to move Liberty's With Her forward!!

76% and counting!
about 7 years ago – Fri, Feb 10, 2017 at 09:15:06 AM

Last night we crossed 3/4 of the way to our goal!

24 more shirts, and we'll have reached it!  Help us spread the word- share on Facebook, in email, everywhere you can.  The more we raise, the faster we can move towards making an impact on our community.

Thanks All!

A small, but important, change.
about 7 years ago – Wed, Feb 08, 2017 at 10:39:17 PM

Hello, Backers and Followers-

We've received feedback that our image was potentially racially insensitive, and could convey a message we were definitely not trying to convey. So, we have made a change to the art that better reflects our intent.

We've changed Liberty's skin color from white to the green of the statue itself, as we do not wish to imply that people of color are helpless, less, or in need of help from whites. We do believe, as Lilla Watson would say, that "our liberation is bound together" (paraphrased).

If you, or anyone you know, was offended by the original image, we would like to express our apologies. Thank you for bearing with us through our learning process.
